Belmont County Fair Housing Commission was established by the
Belmont County Board of Commissioners in 1980.
The purpose of the Commission is to insure that all persons
residing in Belmont County, Ohio are treated fairly when seeking
housing. By definition, fair housing is a condition in which
individuals of similar income levels in the same housing market have
a like range of housing choices available to them regardless of
their race, color, religion, national origin, sex, handicap, or
familial status. Fair housing treatment applies to persons
seeking to lease, rent or buy a dwelling or land within the county.
Fair housing brochures, which contain various laws, duties and
responsibilities of the tenant and landlord, are available to the
public.
Discrimination is a violation of Federal and State Law, and
penalties can be imposed upon those who willfully practice housing
discrimination.
